“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist as we grow up.” -Pablo Picasso
Instruction in visual arts at Ecole Jean-Jacques Rousseau follows the guidelines established by the French Ministry of Education.
The French Visual Arts curriculum supports the young artist in developing their personal vision and technical abilities through experimentation with a variety of media. Problem solving, critical thinking and experimentation with processes respective to the medium build the foundation for aesthetic thinking. Students may have classes in art history, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and more.
Our approach to art education is centered on helping students develop their creativity, their critical reasoning skills, their aesthetics and visual skills. Our objective is to teach students independent thinking, and prepare them to interpret and analyze images in their environments. Students learn to appreciate, interpret and create a work of art.
Students are encouraged to work autonomously when creating their projects to imitate the work of professional artists.
